Welcome to the

Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts

Promoting Linux in Atlanta Since 1994
The Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts (ALE) are a growing group of people in the Atlanta metropolitan area who all share an interest in Linux.

Founded in December 1994, we have hosted a plethora of monthly meetings with talk topics ranging from "How to Configure PPP" to "How to Write Device Drivers". We usually have around 40 - 100 people at each meeting.

The ALE group is loosely organized, with a few people acting as contact points and no charter to bog things down. Anyone is welcome to come to the meetings; there is no membership, fees or any other formalities. To become a member, just show up. Our primary interest is in getting information about Linux to members of the Atlanta community.

ALE has three monthly meetings to accomodate the growing Linux Enthusiast population of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Central meeting is held at Emory University on the second Thursday of the month. The ALE NorthEast meeting is held at Edeltacom Data Center on the first Thursday of the month. The ALE NorthWest meets the third Thursday at the Weather Channel. Directions are on the left sidebar.

ALE-NE November Meeting - Bootable Linux Boot-Off - Nov. 3, 2005 - 7:30PM

Filed at 12:32 pm under ALE Northeast by Michael Still

We will be discussing and showing different bootable cd, dvd, or usb flash Linux distros such as Knoppix and others you may not be familiar with.

If you have a favorite bootable distro then bring it and we’ll (you’ll) show it. We encourage participation from the attendees here. If you want to bring a specific distro then let me know and I’ll try and make sure that nobody else brings the same one.

GNU COMPUTER FREEDOM FEST ‘05:
An Open Source Info & Install Event
of Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts

Filed at 11:52 pm under Announcements by Ruscetta

Whether it’s internet browsers, media players, email clients, writing tools or complete, compatible office productivity suites, Linux and GNU Open Source software are meeting the professional, educational and personal computing needs of millions of people all over the world every day.

Learn how you, too, can liberate your digital information from its proprietary prison. At the GNU COMPUTER FREEDOM FEST, we prove that you don’t have to be a tech head to escape the frustrations of those “Microsoft Moments”. Learn how to liberate your computer creativity with the latest in secure, easy to use, free (as in beer), free (as in speech), high quality GNU Open Source software programs and Linux Xwindow environments for all of your home, school, office and internet applications.

There will be dozens of free CD’s full of GNU software and various Linux distributions** given away at the event, and as a further incentive, we will be giving away a complete*, pre-installed, Linux desktop system (with the hope that it will be won by a starving student or similarly needy GNU Linux newbie).

But whether you come to the GNU COMPUTER FREEDOM FEST to grab the freebies, to help, to learn, to teach, to solve a technical problem or to have a Linux OS** or other GNU software installed on your system, please come prepared to have some fun with computing again!
